Water Baby! (And 4th of July fun)

Ben is such a little water baby! Since we went camping at the end of June, Ben has been swimming a ton! We have a friend here who has an annual 4th of July pool party. It’s a huge get together in his backyard with upwards of 75-100 people. There’s lots of good food, special themed cocktails (this year it was the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee), and lots of swimming. I was worried that Ben would be overwhelmed by all of the people, but he did surprisingly well.

We’ve also been to the pool with J and A a couple of times. A is 7 months older than Ben and MUCH more mobile, it’s fun to see the two of them interacting with the water so much differently. I don’t have any photos from Sholem as Ben and I are in the water together. I want to go on the weekend with Isaac. They have something called the Lazy River with tubes to float on. I think we’d really enjoy that!

Last Saturday, we went to Teutopolis to our friend E’s parents house for another 4th of July party. They have what E calls a pond, but really it’s a lake. It was 105 on Saturday–so hot that even the water in the lake was like a warm bath. Not a tepid bath, a warm bath. Damn it was hot. We stayed for fireworks, real ones. E’s parents have been doing this party for something like 15 years and it is quite a production! We had a ton of fun, but damn were we tired on Sunday!

The big thrill besides swimming with the B-man is that our good friend Ben H. surprised us all by showing up for the annual 4th of July bash! We had a head’s up because he needed a place to lay his weary traveling head. It’s been so wonderful to see him and I’m so glad he’ll be here for a few more weeks before he continues his travels. It was exciting to help him carry out his plan of surprise. We made a costume and he snuck around town with sunglasses and a hat so he could be incognito before the big reveal. The looks on the faces of his unsuspecting friends when they realized Ben H was really here were priceless! So glad to be a part of it!

We made Baby Ben a disguise too!
